We’re a little over halfway through April, so I thought I’d do an update on how Camp NaNoWriMo is going. In my previous post, I mentioned a few goals – mainly that I wanted to do 30,000 words in April to bring the current draft of my novel up to 70,000.
I’m happy to say I’m on track with this! Currently, my word count is around 57,000, and I’ve written 16,654 words during NaNo. Even though I’m in my final year of university and have exams to study for (which has caused a mountain of stress) I’ve found myself being really productive. My writing is a nice escape from the constant revision, although sometimes it does feel like extra work. Especially when all I want to do is relax and binge watch anime. Still, I’m persevering, because I’m determined that no matter how busy I am in life, I’ll always make time for writing novels.
The cabin experience has been so-so. Out of five of us, only two are updating regularly. This doesn’t bother me much, though – I’m doing this to motivate myself first and foremost, and it seems to be working. Once this draft is done, I feel it’ll need a bit of fleshing out, but I’ve got the plot pinned down (thanks to an 85,000 word scrapped first draft!) All it will need when I’m done is a few extra scenes and a lot of polishing. I’m excited to make this story the best it can be.
I know this is a short post, but life has been hectic and I also have a poorly other half to look after. So, for now I’m signing off – but look for another update at the end of April.
